FREE SPRING GARDEN TALKS OFFERED

DSC_0072In conjunction with the Springfield Parks Department Master Gardeners will be giving talks this spring on a variety of topics of interest to gardeners.
These talks are on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Lakefront (Boyd D. Esler Senior/Community) Center, 2491 Canfield Rd., Akron, 44312. The talks are FREE!! For more information, please contact Doug Foltz at 330-734-4121.

Also offered this growing season, The Master Gardener Vegetable Gardening Practicum group meets weekly at Springfield Senior/Community Center on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 am. The public is welcome to stop by to see what is growing in the raised vegetable beds or ask a gardening a question. Twice a month at that time, through June, the group will host “Veggie Garden Coffee Talks”. These are informal ‘roundtable’ gatherings of Master Gardeners and interested members of the community. We have agenda topics to guide the discussion, but all questions, comments and discussions will be welcome.
We hope you will join us!

Veggie Garden Coffee Talks topics
May 2 - “Getting Ready for Summer” -  prepping the beds -  planting techniques -  timing- planning succession plantings/ record keeping
May 16 - “Getting the Garden In” -  proper spacing -  what to put where – what to consider -  Fertilizer guidelines
June 6 - “Maintaining those new plants”It’s not too late to start! -  warm weather plants -  watering schedules -  keep an eye on the pests
June 20 - “Summer Gardening” how much do I feed and water? -  harvesting spring produce – did you keep a record? -  maintaining summer plants so they continue to produce -  more beneficial/pest insect scouting
